In 2004, the Council of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) selected Portugal has the host country of the XXXV Congress, to be held in Lisbon, in September 2007.
The IAH Portuguese Chapter (IAH-GP) assumes the responsibility to organize this Congress, with support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, International Hydrological Programme (UNESCO-IHP) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The International Association of Hydrogeologists is an organisation that provides a world-wide forum on the management of groundwater for the benefit of mankind and environment. With more than 3,500 members in 135 countries, the IAH exists since 1956 and is a scientific and educational organisation whose aims are to promote research into and understanding of the proper management and protection of groundwater for the common good throughout the world. All scientists, engineers and others who have interest in this groundwater related issues are welcome to join and support the work of the association.
The Portuguese Chapter of the International Association of Hydrogeologists is a national group formed in February 2002, with 45 members, which have in the last years organized or supported the organization of several national and international meetings concerning the knowledge and discussion of groundwater related issues in Portugal.
