SYMPOSIUM ON THERMAL AND MINERAL WATERS IN HARD ROCK TERRAINS

21-24 September 2007 – Lisbon
Organized by: José Manuel Marques, António Chambel, Luís Ribeiro

Price for complete Symposium: 300 €
Price for the conferences day (only day 21): 75 €

The Symposium on Thermal and Mineral Waters in Hard rock Terrains will be an organization of the IAH Commission on Hard Rock Hydrogeology. The organization is independent of the IAH 2007 Congress, but will occur in the same space of the IAH Congress, in the University of Lisbon.
The Symposium has two different integrated parts:

  • one day (21) of conferences, including a limited number of invited speakers and participant presentations;
  • a three days field trip (22-24) to the northern border of Portugal, to contact with the thermal and mineral waters of the NW Iberian Peninsula. Participants are encouraged to send their papers. The rules for abstracts and papers and the schedule will be the same as defined for the IAH Congress. When sending your Abstract, on the line before the title you must write “Symposium”.

The Symposium will provide an international forum for a comprehensive review of the state of the art and recent advances in this field. This Workshop will also facilitate the transfer of information, knowledge and interactions between hydrogeologists, engineers, researchers, and students gathering to understand the science and management of groundwaters in hard rock terrains.
The main goals of this Workshop are to:

  • Review the state of the art (e.g. comparison of conditions of occurrences of these type of waters all over the world, their chemical and physical signatures, their origin and age, etc.).
  • Outline recent developments in the application of hydrogeological techniques for groundwater resources management in hard rock terrains.
  • Identify future trends and developments for research and applications.

The price will cover the proceedings of the Symposium, the bus transport, the accommodation and meals during the field trip (days 22 to 24). Excluded are the accommodation and meals in Lisbon before the field trip and the dinner of day 24, and accommodation after that date in Lisbon.
